What is it?

The REACH Awards program is designed to advance high quality research in

cardiovascular, kidney, and metabolic (CKM) health

and stems from a joint effort between Bayer and the American Academy of Family Physicians. The REACH Awards are intended to support a community of healthcare professionals (HCPs), fellows, clinical researchers, scientists, and epidemiologists currently working within the field of CKM diseases in the United States. REACH Award entries will be evaluated on innovation, quality of the research proposal/approach, and anticipated impact on the CKM field.

Program objective

To support needed clinical or population research in innovative and understudied areas within the CKM health space, including but not limited to:
⦁    Identification, diagnosis, and monitoring of patients with CKM syndrome
⦁    The prevalence of CKM syndrome and CKM-related outcomes in key populations
⦁    The role of primary care in CKM health
⦁    The benefits of pharmacotherapies for treating CKM syndrome
⦁    The implementation of guideline-directed medical therapies for treating CKM disease

Applicants may also propose research outside these areas. Applicants will be required to describe how their proposed research may translate into clinical benefits for patients with CKM conditions. Proposals with clear translational relevance may be given greater consideration during the review process.

About the Grants Review Committee

Select experts from Bayer and the American Academy of Family Physicians will constitute the Grants Review Committee.

How to apply for a REACH Award

⦁ Interested parties are invited to complete an

LOI proposal

. The purpose of the LOI proposal is to allow for screening of the grant concept; the LOI proposal does not in any manner bind the investigator, Bayer, or the American Academy of Family Physicians in a contractual agreement.
⦁    The LOI proposal submission deadline is August 16, 2026
.
⦁    All LOI proposals will be reviewed by the Grants Review Committee, which is made up of independent experts from the American Academy of Family Physicians as well as Bayer experts from the CKM field.
⦁    Following review by the committee, successful applicants will be notified and invited to submit a Research protocol, inclusive of a final itemized budget.
⦁    Research protocols will be reviewed by the committee and successful applicants will be notified as final award recipients. Successful Research protocols will undergo a Bayer fair market value assessment.

REACH Awards timeline – 2026/2027 cycle

⦁    Deadline for submission of LOI proposals: August 16, 2026
⦁    Applicants informed of decision: September 30, 2026
⦁    Deadline for submission of Research protocols: October 30, 2026
⦁    Applicants notified of decision: December 15, 2026
